Q: I have a 2002 F150 i am trying to remove the V8 Triton emblem on the side are there holes behind the piece?
People think the F150 and the V8 Triton is one piece but it really isn't. They are two pieces that look to be one piece and i just want to remove the V8 part of it tips on removing the part are help full too. Thanks for the help.

A: Dental floss is ideal because it's so thin and still strong,. Unwaxed is best because it's rougher and cuts better. Use strong tape like 2" wide box tape such as 3M storage tape to remove what's left. Press it on and peel it off taking the old stuff and glue with it. If it's a foamy tape then rubbing it with your thumb works well. Bug and Tar remover from the automotive store is a way to remove it chemically, just be sure to wash it off asap.

Q: How to change the rear end in a 2002 F150? Or tell if it is going out?
How can I tell if the rear end is going out in my truck? It is leaking oil from the rear end, making a roaring sound when yu drive down the road, and now I hear a popping sound coming from the back. If it is going out how can I replace it myself?

A: If you know for sure the noisy is coming from the differential and the gears need to be replaced and aligned, you'd better have an experienced mechanic do it. If it's only an axle bearing going out, then you can pull the axle and have the defective bearing removed and a new one pressed on at some parts stores. (check around ) One other thing you can do if the differential is bad, and that is to go to a junk yard and get the whole rear end and that's kind of easy to change out. Good Luck

I want to buy a cover for a truck we have. F150, 4 door, so i guess its a short cab. I want to know what is the size cover i need to be looking for. Q: What are possible diesel engines that i can fit in my 2002 f150?
I wana swap to a diesel engine what are possible engines? i heard of the cummins 4BT working well anything else?

A: it would be way more expensive to swap engines than the truck is worth! what about the tranny? diesel engines put out way more torque than a gas engine could produce which will affect your tranny. you'll also have to get a new computer and remember, a diesel does not produce vacuum like a gas engine so you'll have to get a vacuum pump as well to operate the brake booster and the hvac and anything else that requires vacuum. not to mention the fuel pump which is probably in the tank! you'd be better off selling your f-150 and putting the money down on a used f-250 with the 6.0 liter powerstroke

Q: problem with 2002 F150 brakes just before coming to a complete stop?
I just had a complete brake system repair and some of the times as I am coming to a complete stop, the ABS kicks in and brake pedal gets soft. Only time it happens is going 5 mph or so just before the vehicle stops completely. No light for abs comes on. I never had this problem before my brakes were done.

A: The brake fluid was not bled correctly. It's suppose to be done with 2 people. 1 person pumping the brake and the other person at one corner with open fluid valve checking for bubbles. Once no bubbles seen anymore, then the valve gets closed and then check the other 3. Air inside the fluid causes softness on the pedal after a new brake job because the hydraulic fluid works best acting as a solid with no air.

Q: Can I fit a kicker 10" l5 behind my seat of a 2002 f150 reg cab?
I don't have a box yet but I'm planning on building one but I didn't know if it would fit in there with the box also. Any suggestions?

A: can fit it, but might need to remove the tool kit. I have personally installed a 12 with 2.5cft in one of those trucks and had to remove the box

A: Sounds like a vacuum problem with the blend door. I'm guessing it switches vents when you are going up hill or are accelerating.

Q: i own a 2002 f150 4x4 when i turn the switch to off the 4x4 doesnt shut off any ideas?
the light goes off but 4x4 stays on and fluid is ok.

A: You are probably having problems with the 4X4 switch, because the computer should be getting a signal saying that it should disengage the 4X4 function. The light going out on your dash says that the signal is going to the main computer, but likely not to the computer that controls the transfer case or the 4X4 function. Try having the vehicle hooked up to an analyzer and see what comes up.

Q: Why does my 2002 F150 4wd super crew lariat, turn hard or hop while in 4wd, mostly on hard packed surface?
This seems to happen on pavement or dry hard surfaces. It only takes like 3/4 turn of the wheel and the turn becomes very difficult. How normal is this?

A: This is largely due to the fact that your 4x4 is working exactly the way it should. The meat and potatoes of the 4x4 system is that your front axle and rear axle are turning in unison. Locking the hubs and differentials are what allow you to maintain constant movement of each wheel. Having said that, a differential does exactly as the name states: it differentiates between the proper spin to each axle through a planetary gear set hooked to a ring and pinion gear. What I'm getting at is this; While turning a corner, due to the angle of the turn the wheel closest to the inside of the turn (Say you were turning right, this would be your right rear wheel) will spin much slower than the outer wheel. Because of this, your differential must allow each axle to spin independantly (Or, in the case of a ford 4x4 with limited slip, the clutch packs alllow for the proper spin of each axle) of one another completely eliminating wheel hop or locking of the gears. Now, if you understand the fundementals of the 4x4 system, what is your issue: The axles are locked. With the axles locked, it is unable to allow for a faster spinning outer axle and slower spinning inner axle, as they both spin in unison. This in turn, binds the gears and can be potentially damaging to your Driveline. Now, if you're thinking: "When I'm out wheeling or in the snow it doesn't bind, even if I turn the wheel hard over?" This is mainly due to the fact that the snow/mud will ALLOW your wheels to slip/slide, unlike the gripping hard surface you're having the issue on. Make sense? Hope I helped.

I just got my truck back from replacing the u-joints and now I here it while driving forward.

A: Did they replace one or both. Also make sure that they set the c-clips correctlly. If they did replace both u-joints then I would try and greese them.

Q: My 2002 f150 will hesitate while accelerating and the theft light with flash very shortly, what's going on?
I only have one key for the truck so I can't try using a diffferent key. I only have one key so I can't try another key, also the hesitation and theft light flash alway happen simultaneously but at random times so i suspect a problem with the PATS ( passive anti theft system). Any help would be great...and telling me to take it to a mechanic is NOT help.

A: Two different issues. The hesitation is a fuel delivery/engine management problem. It needs the attention of a honest mechanic. The easiest way to fix the annoying flashing light is with duct tape. Just cover it up.

Q: What sound system should i get for my 2002 f150 ext cab.?

Q: 2002 f150 transmission shifting problem?
ok i have 2002 5.4L f150 and the transmission shifts weird. it is a brand new tranny and its full of fluid and there is no leaking i was wondering if there is any vacum lines going to that could cause this problem. thank you

A: see if its got a vacuum modulator valve on the side, if it does, check the hose, it might be either off or broke.

A: It can be the battery, it can be the starter, it can be the fuel injector...it can be many things. Its hard to answer your question here but have a mechanic check it out. The same thing happened to my Ford Explorer and I thought it was the battery, but it turned out to be a conflict with my starter and the electrical system running through my car. Use sealer on both sides of the gasket?

A: If the rear cover and differential carrier are both clean and dry most any color of RTV sealer will work well on eash gasket surface. Don't risk the job with no gasket! You'll get much better "bite and crush" with a gasket.
